About
Holly Fay’s artistic practice investigates the interconnectedness of natural phenomena, ecological system relationships, phenomenology, the lived environment, and the more-than-human world. Fay utilizes various media, with drawing serving as her principal medium. Employing direct media and processes, Fay produces works that encourage contemplative engagement and reflection on the foundational elements of the natural world that sustain us.
Holly has exhibited in Canada and internationally, most recently in exhibitions in Regina (Canada), Orillia (Canada), Baltimore (USA), Santa Fe (USA), and Lublin (Poland). Her work is included in both private and public collections and has been supported by grants from SK Arts and the Canada Council for the Arts. In 2024, Holly was honoured with a fellowship residency from the Ucross Foundation.
She holds an MFA from the University of Ulster in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and a BFA from the University of Regina, Canada.
Holly is grateful to live and work on Treaty 4 lands, situated on the territories of the nêhiyawak, Anihšināpēk, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakoda, and the homeland of the Métis/Michif Nation.
Living in the distinctive Prairie Ecozone, one of the most heavily altered ecozones in Canada, influences Fay’s artistic practice. Sky, water, earth, light, and the under-seen facets of nature are recurring subjects in her work.
Holly Fay is an Associate Professor, specializing in painting and drawing, within the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance at the University of Regina, Canada.
