About
Holly Fay’s artistic practice explores the interconnectedness of natural phenomena, ecological systems, phenomenology, the lived environment, and the more-than-human world. She is a multidisciplinary artist, with drawing as her primary medium. Using direct media and processes, Fay creates works that foster contemplative engagement and reflection on the fundamental elements of the natural world that sustain us.
Holly has exhibited in Canada and internationally, most recently in shows in Regina (Canada), Orillia (Canada), Baltimore (USA), Santa Fe (USA), and Lublin (Poland). Her work is included in private and public collections and has received grants from SK Arts and the Canada Council for the Arts. She has participated in residencies in Canada, the USA, and Europe. In 2024, Holly was honoured with a fellowship residency from the Ucross Foundation.
She holds an MFA from the University of Ulster in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and a BFA from the University of Regina, Canada.
Holly is grateful to live and work on Treaty 4 lands, situated on the territories of the nêhiyawak, Anihšināpēk, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakoda, and the homeland of the Métis/Michif Nation.
Living in the distinctive Prairie Ecozone, one of the most heavily altered ecozones in Canada, influences Fay’s artistic practice. Sky, water, earth, light, and the under-seen facets of nature are recurring subjects in her work.
Holly Fay is an Associate Professor, specializing in painting and drawing, within the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance at the University of Regina, Canada.
