Scape paintings / paradox paintings
This body of oil paintings on canvas and found/reclaimed hoarding board from the early to mid-nighties addressed the beauty of the natural world as well as anxiety and disquietude over the environment. The large scale paintings - 5 x 8 ft were built up with layers of thinly applied oil glaze to create a “backlight” image with that both glowed and had a depth, and also a reflective surface, in which viewers standing directly in front would see their silhouette reflected, and part of, or implicated in the context of the imagery.
